Favorite Venues for Square Dancing
The Sunset Promenaders dance in the classiest location in the Portland area–the IOOF Hall in Hillsboro. This elegant room with lightly textured white walls seems more ballroom than meeting room.
For an old-timey look that makes me think of square dancing in my grandparents’ era, I like the Boring Barn. Open rafters. Pitched roof. Rustic wood. The Barn offers a warm, homey atmosphere.
Jim Steele Benefit a Success
The benefit dance (The Portland Area Council’s 5th Friday Dance on April 30) was to raise funds for caller Jim Steele and his family. The money will defray costs of his medical expenses. Approximately 100 people attended the dance. The event raised $705.66. The PAC Treasure (Enid Wheeler) wrote out a check to Sandy Eddings who had coordinated the fundraiser for all clubs and councils in Oregon.
The Oak Grove Community Center donated the use of the hall at no charge. A big thank you goes to Mark Engerman, president. The Checkerboard Squares provided the refreshments with all proceeds going to the benefit. They raised $71. Thank you, Checkerboard Squares.
The callers included George Hermann, Daryl Clendenin, Mark Wheeler, Terry Halley, Chuck Garner, David Trout and Michael Kious. Cuers included Tami Helms, Patty Hermann, Daryl Clendenin and David Trout.
Thanks to everyone who help to make this fundraiser successful.
