Portland Area Council Tops for OFN Subscriptions

The editor was sitting in the entryway of the Abernethy Grange as square dancers came in Wednesday night, greeting dancers and taking their money. If you renewed or bought a new subscription to Oregon’s official square dance magazine, the Oregon Federation News, your date or spouse got into the Bachelors and Bachelorettes’ dance  for free. FIve dollars saved.

Throughout the evening, caller emcee Chuck Garner updated dancers on the number of subscriptions Portland Area Council members had bought. The goal was to outdo the Willamette Council south of Portland and the Tualatin Valley Council west of Portland.

Editor Vivian Fairburn had set 32 new or renewed subscriptions as her goal at this dance. But before the evening was over, she had sold 35 subscriptions, meaning the Portland Area Council had beat out the Tualatin Valley Council (31 subscriptions sold) and the Willamette Valley Council (28 subscriptions sold). Everyone cheered at the news. A little rivalry can be a good thing.
